Sunny Sunday Afternoon

It’s a lovely day today, so I thought I’d wander around town for a while.  I’ve been feeling the itch to get out of town for a while now, so tomorrow I’ll probably take a little trip through Kakheti.

Increasing sense of pessimism here as the snows thaw and the mountain passes open up again.  Met several people who seem to think trouble is brewing, pointing to the ceasefire talks that have stalled in Geneva, political instability within Georgia, and the fact that ‘war-season’ is almost upon us again.  Here’s an article that’s been floating around the expat community here that sums up the issues.  Here’s another one about the anti-government rally Friday night in which a car was apparently blown up, and about the big demonstration planned for April 9th.  And yet another one.  The feeling seems to be that Russia will still use a pretext, perhaps not for another invasion, but to further destabilize the country.  We’ll see.

Anyway, going to dinner at Khatuna’s tonight.
